방소윤의 작업은 디지털 세계(Digital world)와 물리적 세계(Physical world) 간 위계를 흔드는 것에서 출발한다. 디지털 원주민(Digital native)으로서 디지털과 물리적 세계를 자유롭게 오가며 생활하는 방소윤은 두 세계에서의 경험 모두를 동등한 현실로 받아들인다. 다양한 경험은 서로 영향을 주고받으며 얽히고, 이는 작가의 정체성 형성에 끊임없이 영향을 미친다. 방소윤은 이와 같이 실재와 가상의 등위가 사라지는 감각적 경험에 집중하며, 세계를 감각하는 수용기관으로서의 신체에 대한 흥미를 가지고 구체적인 인간 형상 또는 이로부터 파생된 미지의 존재를 작품으로 드러내고 있다.

작품은 회화, 영상, 조각, 증강현실(AR) 등 여러 가지 물질적 또는 비물질적 형식으로 존재한다. 3D 프로그램을 통해 각각의 독립된 이야기들을 가시화하고, 이것을 형식에 맞게 다양한 방식으로 재현한다. 인간이라는 존재로서의 자기 인식은 인간의 형상을 재생산하는 것을 넘어 이를 창조하는 과정에서의 의식적 활동과도 연결된다. 작가는 최근 그의 고유한 창조적 사고와 AI 이미지 프로세서 알고리즘의 작용이 지닌 특징을 감각적으로 직조하여 회화로 드러내는 작업을 하고 있다.

방소윤(b.1992)은 홍익대학교 미술대학 회화과를 졸업하고 서울과학기술대학교 일반대학원 조형예술과를 졸업하였다. 2021년 첫 번째 개인전 «Hello, World!»(상히읗, 서울) 이후 스페이스 소에서 개인전 «Polymorph the Night»(2024)을 개최하였다. 단체전으로는 «합성열병»(2025, 코리아나미술관, 서울), «2025 우민보고: 보편적 사회»(2025, 우민아트센터, 청주), 2인전 «Digitally Minded»(2023, 상히읗, 서울), «Hacker Space»(2023, TINC, 서울), «Humanism Reimagined: Embracing change>(2023, WWNN, 서울), «Super Summer»(2023, Moosey NORWICH, 노리치, 영국), «나는 누가 울면 따라 울어요»(2023, 스페이스 소, 서울), «생동하는 틈»(2022, 원앤제이 갤러리, 서울) 등 다수의 전시에 참여하였다. 우민아트센터에 작가의 작품이 소장되어있다.

Bang Soyun’s art begins with disrupting the hierarchy between the digital and physical worlds. As a digital native, Bang freely navigates between the digital and physical worlds, accepting experiences in both realms as equivalent realities. Various experiences influence each other, constantly shaping the artist’s identity. Focusing on sensorial experiences where the distinction between reality and virtuality fades away, Bang has been exploring figures of human or the unknown derived from it as sensory receptors perceiving the world. 

Her works exist in various material or immaterial forms such as paintings, videos, sculptures, and even augmented reality (AR). Through 3D modeling software, she visualizes different independent narratives and reproduces them in various ways into multiple forms. The self-awareness of being human leads not only to the visual reproduction of the human form but also to the conscious activity involved in the creation process. The artist has been closely observing the process of her creative thinking and AI image processor algorithms, which is expressed through the recent paintings.
